POSTAL SERVICE

Buy stamps at the post office or from newsstands. Letters go in the orange boxes around the city. Air Mail to Europe is 9 Kc for a letter, 7 Kc for a postcard. Air Mail to overseas is 11 Kc for a letter, 8 Kc for a postcard. Do not forget to write Air Mail on the envelope. Express service is 20 Kc extra, registration 20 Kc extra.

POST OFFICE

There are a bunch of post offices open on weekdays from 8 am to 6 pm. The main post office at Jindrisska 14 (close to the metro station Mustek) is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm. Go inside to the hall and:

buy a stamp and phone card from windows 10 and 11
send a letters and postcards at windows 3 - 8 and 10 - 11
send a parcel at windows 16 and 17
pick up a poste restante on the second level
get information in English from guide machine in the right corner

Non stop post office is located next to the railway station Praha Masarykovo Nadrazi (close to the metro station Namesti Republiky) at Hybernska 15.

PHONE

Phone card is good for local, long distance and international calls. Cards are sold in post office and newsstands for up to 400 Kc worth of calls. To call out of the Czech Republic dial 00 followed by the country code, area code and the number. The fees from Prague are about $1 a minute to USA and Australia. For the international operator dial 0135. The country code to the Czech Republic is 420. Area code to Prague is 02.

The main public telephone bureau and the main fax/telegram bureau is located at Politickych Veznu 4 (close to the metro station Mustek) and is open 24 hours a day.

Phone numbers in Prague are gradually being changed from six or seven digit numbers to eight digit numbers.

INTERNET CAFES

There are a dozen cyber cafes in Prague. Some of them have only one computer and very slow dial-up connection. On the other side there are couple of good ones:

Planeta, Vinohradska 102, 15Kc/10min, open daily from 8 am to 10 pm
Probably the most professional cyber cafe in the city. Easy accessible (close to the metro station Jiriho z Podebrad) with a lot of computers and fast connection. Non smokers only. Drinks available but no real food.

U Pepu, Pod Nuselskymi schody 1, 40Kc/30min, open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 10 pm, Saturday from 12 to 10 pm, Sunday from 12 to 8 pm
Located 5 minutes from the city center by tram or 20 minutes walking distance. Cozy and quiet place, excellent cafe and tea, delicious pancakes and griddlecakes, four computers, fast connection, non smokers only :-)

Terminal, Soukenicka 6, 30Kc/15min, open daily from 11 am to 1 am
Internet Service Provider with fast connection. Wide offer of drinks but no real food. Good place for smokers!

Netwave, Na bojisti 8, 40Kc/30min, open Monday to Friday from 11 am to 11 pm, Saturday 3 pm to 11 pm, closed on Sunday
Cyber cafe and cyber club as well. Easy accessible (close to the metro station IP Pavlova), fast connection, a lot of computers, non smokers only. Drinks available but no real food.

Golden Rose, Thunovska 20, 30Kc/15min, open daily from 10 am to 7 pm
Neat place just under the Prague Castle. If you wish to say hello to your friends at home from your sightseeing tour to Prague Castle, go there. No real food but drinks, no smokers only

Spika, Dlazdena 4, 25Kc/15min, open daily from 10 am to 10 pm
Nothing special, slow connection, no food just only drinks. Good for smokers!

Cybeteria, Stepanska 18, open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 8 pm, Saturday from 12 to 6 pm, closed on Sunday
It used to be the first cyber cafe in the city. Recently nothing special.
